Checking out the Czechs!

Four days in Prague.... I know what a hard life! We headed over on the Thursday night and met up with Vickie at the apartment,
Friday was full of sight seeing - we had our own local guide (Petr) who had just arrived back from NZ and was keen to show us the sights - we headed to Prague Castle and went through the Cathedral, we even climbed the 300 odd stairs to the top of the clock tower and enjoyed an amazing view over the city! We then headed down from the castle through a number of quaint little lanes to Charles Bridge, this was crammed with tourists, buskers and street stalls... people watching galore!

We spent most of the day beating the pavement and seeing all of the sights in the central city, that evening we headed back to the hostel on the tube and after so many warnings by Vickies mum we had a run in with the gypsies! Yep we were warned to watch out for the pick pockets and when we jumped on the tube Vickie and Andrea were crowded in by some guys who were trying to get their sticky fingers into their bags.... Vickie pulled a crouch and pounce stance and managed to evade the damn gypsies! Luckily nothing was taken, and I was oblivous to the whole thing until after it was over.... that moment will be known as 'The Attack of the Gypsies'.

We headed out to dinner that night and had an excellent meal and plenty of beer... sooo cheap! We made friends with the waitress, and were very popular after we over tipped her - whoops! Petr our Czech friend informed us that we probably just gave her about a days wages.... wasnt that much - but we looked like the wanky tourists! Oh well such is life....

The next day we headed out for a spot of shopping, Prague didnt pull out a blinder for us that day but we are thinking that that had more to do with the lack of enthusiasm than the poor shopping options, we then caught a ride in a convertible skoda around the town, to the jewish quarter and up to the Technology Museum which was recommended by Nick, unfortunately the technology museum was being demolished - bugger! We ended up walking back down the hill through the park which was really nice!

On Sunday we hired a car and went waltzing into the countryside... That was interesting, Left hand drive and on the wrong side of the road! Shane was concentrating really hard and only had one time where he ended up on the wrong side of the road.... otherwise we were all good... we went out to Kjansten castle and followed all of the signs to drive to the castle - we ended up driving through a pedestrian access only village - whoops wanky tourists strikes again... luckily our car was covered in sign writing that showed we were tourists... we thought the back said 'This car contains useless foreigners - honk as necessary' we found out later it just said 'Rent Me' ...

The castles were great and very different from what we had seen so far - Vickie decided to take over the driving - now that was scary! She sailed through and intersection without stopping because she didnt know which way to turn! After hysterical laughter on her part and lots of cursing on ours she was away! Aparrently there were no more incidents!

We got back to Prague and went out for dinner and drinks - ended up at a club called Double Trouble which was great and after a few more beers we headed back to Charles Bridge and checked out all of the city lights so Vickie could take lots of pictures....

So that was Prague - really worthwhile and heaps of fun!
