God dag from Norway!

Well we are back from Norway, Shane I headed to Oslo for the long weekend! We managed to get really cheap flights and that was where the 'cheapness' began and ended! After a 2 hour bus ride from the airport and then a high speed taxi drive through the city we got to our hotel and crashed!
The next day we got up and had the meanest breakfast ever - as far as hotel breakfasts go it was the best and the options were endless! We then wandered through town and bought an Oslo pass, this was a really good buy - it covered all of our transport and all of the sights! We jumped on a ferry and headed out to the Viking and Kon-Tiki Museums, these were pretty cool, the viking museum had a couple of burial ships that were about a thousand years old and were buried in blue clay so were very well preserved. The Kon-Tiki museum was especially cool - there were displays and video etc of the various rafts that have been used to cross the oceans based on historical accounts and have been used to prove and disprove migration theories.
The next stop for us was Holmenkollen ski jump which has an amazing view over Oslo and is an enormous ski jump which is used for the Winter Olympics and world class ski jumping events. It is pretty impressive and damn scary to look down it ... We did a simulation, very funny and I am sure that it is miles off what the real thing would be like. We headed back to the city centre and wandered around the waterfront for a bit before walking up to Vigeland Park.

Vigeland Park is awesome! There are all of these crazy sculptures around the place that have been gistd to the city. The main attraction is an enormous phallic like sculpture in the centre of the park, heaps of people were chilling out, having BBQ's etc... very relaxed!

We walked back through the city and found an amazing wooden wheel in this store... I loved it and we went to buy it... it was a little expensive but very cool - then the shop owner told us that he had imported it from Asia... we didnt get it, it lost the shine once we figured out that we could probably pick something similar up on the way home for a 10th of the price.... oh well!

We got to the waterfront to have dinner and realised that we were way to under dressed to eat out there... whoops! The next day we jumped on the ferry and headed to Drobak, this is where Santa has his summer house! Was interesting news to us - we hadn't thought of Santa having a summer place... anyway we had lunch by the water and took a train ride through the little town before heading back to Oslo on the bus!

On Monday we managed to get a spot of shopping in before heading back to the airport... I was off to Dublin and Shane back to London... good times - and another stamp in the passport!
