Well the boys are off! Today they left London to finish the sailing adventure that Jon and Paul embarked on last year from Florida. They made it to the Azores (Mid Atlantic off Portugal) and had to leave the boat there for repairs. If you want to see how the boys went with the first part of the trip have a look at
http://doublebruyn.blogspot.com/. Anyway the time has come to finish the journey... The route is obviously weather dependant but I have put a rough map above of the distance that they will be covering. Shane calculated it and it works out about the same distance as sailing from Auckland to Melbourne if that helps...

The team consists of Shane, Jon and Jase (above) - While Paul (also in the photo) would love to be on the boat as well he has to get back to work in Italy... pampering the rich and famous on enormous super yachts cannot wait... As you can see the have the team shirts, which I am told is all that will be worn for the next three weeks... eeek. They left pretty excited and very keen to get on their way. Shane is stoked to be doing this with such a great team. Both Jon and Jase have spent alot of time sailing in various locations around the world and have plenty of experience on the water. Most recently they were our captains on our Turkey trip. Shane also has plenty of experience being out on the water although his has always involved a motor! I think Captain Jon may have a challenge on his hands to keep Shane from speeding up the process at times!

Above is Double Bruyn, this is the mighty vessel that they will be bringing back. The boys have been busy making sure that the boat is decked out with all of the right sailing gear and safety equipment... sails, life rafts, GPS, a Sat Phone etc. This has definitely eased my mind that they have everything they need for good circumstances and bad (fingers crossed this wont eventuate).
So this is what is going on at the moment - they are planning on leaving the harbour at Terceira on Thursday 31st of July. Hendrik (Jon's dad) will be providing support from a navigation and weather perspective. I will be keeping tabs on their progress and charting where they are each day as well - I have full plans to update the blog daily with their position and how they are doing while at sea, so keep tuned!
